I am what you might call a sucker.
- When it comes to animals I can’t control my empathy or emotions.
I tend to be the sort of person who collects a lot of furry friends that nobody else would want to take care of. I don’t know how to say no to a dog or cat in need. Recently, this characteristic of mine has gotten me into some new troubles. Namely, my love for animals has been extended to taking care of a particularly old and temperamental bird. Unfortunately, this includes changing many aspects of my life, including my HVAC system. Several weeks ago it came to my attention that my neighbor had died. As a result, his ancient bird was now effectively homeless. I offered to take care of the large parrot without realizing what it was going to mean for my entire household, all the way down to my heating system. You see, it turns out that birds are extremely sensitive to indoor air temperature and air quality. They are even more adverse to fluctuating indoor air temperatures and cold drafts. If your bird is exposed to an ice cold draft it’s very possible that they will fall sick and perish. This bird, in particular, was very susceptible to fluctuating indoor air temperatures and low air quality because of his age. Within a few days of bringing him into the house it has been recommended that I replace my forced air furnace with a more bird friendly heating system. Several thousand dollars later, I have brand-new radiant heated floors to provide more even and accurate warmth to this free bird.
