Finishing touches for the house

Finishing touches for the house

About five years ago, my husband and I bought a house that had recently been flipped by a contractor.

We were delighted that everything was brand new and very modern.

The appliances, light fixtures and tile floors are beautiful. The house has a new roof, granite countertops and Energy Star rated windows. Even the water heater, furnace and air conditioner were upgraded. Unfortunately, the contractor installed cheap kitchen cupboards, doors and baseboards. The wood is very poor quality and easily damaged. It feels flimsy and definitely won’t hold up to everyday wear and tear. I decided to contact a local custom furniture builder and see if they could make some improvements. The guy I dealt with was really wonderful. He was more than happy to come to the house, look everything over and offer recommendations. We discussed some ideas for increasing storage space in the kitchen and styles for cabinets. The custom furniture craftsman showed me samples of types of hardwoods. We considered carrying the theme throughout the house by way of window sills and baseboards. The project was rather large and involved. I ordered eight hardwood doors, upper and lower kitchen cabinets, moldings for the doors and windows, baseboards and a kitchen table and chairs. It took several months for everything to be completed. The custom furniture craftsman delivered my order and also handled the installation. He was extremely meticulous, neat and tidy. The hardwood accessories completely transformed our house. My husband and I are just delighted with the results. We are now planning a custom designed entertainment center and coffee table.
